President & Chief Executive Officer

Ed began his career with Shelco in 1983 as a Project Manager. In 1992 he was named President and Chief Operating Officer and in January 2000 he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer. Ed is responsible for and has prevailed in the overall success of Shelco’s Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh offices. Under his leadership and guidance, Shelco’s annual revenues consistently ranked among the largest general contractors in the Southeast. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Ed holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.

Chief Financial Officer & Executive Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer

After joining Shelco in 1994, Scott was named Chief Financial Officer in 1998. His responsibilities incorporate overall financial management, including information technology where he led Shelco’s transition into new enterprise software. In 2003 Scott was named Executive Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and under his leadership Shelco has improved administrative cost efficiency and internal controls. Scott has a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and he is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.

Howard N. Peabody

Vice Chairman & Chief Operating Officer

Howard began his career with Shelco in 1986 working as a Senior Project Manager. In 1992 he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Shelco’s Charlotte office. Howard has served as Project Executive on many prominent projects in the Charlotte region, where he has fostered seamless operations and continual growth. He earned his B.S. degree from Western Carolina University and is a licensed NC General Contractor.

Gerard J. Reid

Executive Vice President

Gerard began his career with Shelco in 1993 with a focus in the health care industry. In 1995 he opened the Greenville, SC office and led the successful completion of a diversified list of projects. He led several large retail and mixed use projects in both Carolinas. In 2003, Gerard was promoted to Executive Vice President and Co-Manager of the Charlotte office. Gerard continues to serve as Project Executive for Shelco projects in Charlotte and South Carolina.

Barry W. Gardner

Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer

Barry joined Shelco as a project manager in 1984. In 1992, Barry was promoted to Executive Vice President of the Winston-Salem office. In addition to managing operations at our Winston-Salem location, Barry co-manages the Raleigh office. Barry has served as the Project Executive for numerous successful Shelco projects in the Triad and Triangle Regions. He holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University.

Executive Vice President

Dan began his Shelco career in 1991 as a project manager in the Charlotte office. In 1998, Dan opened the Raleigh office and successfully completed a diverse list of projects in the Triangle Region. By 2003, he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Co-Manager of the Raleigh office. Dan has served as Project Executive on numerous projects in the Triangle. He has a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University and is a Registered Professional Engineer.

Senior Vice President - Business Administration

Susie began her career with Shelco in 1988, and in 2000 was named Senior Vice President of Business Administration. Her responsibilities include Human Resources, insurance administration, and overall risk management including OSHA Compliance and the Corporate Health & Safety Program. Susie earned her B.A. degree in Political Science and English from Clemson University.

Senior Vice President, Field Operations

Earl began his career with Shelco in 1981 as a professional carpenter and in 1992 he was promoted to General Superintendent of the Charlotte office. In 1998 he was named Senior Vice President of Field Operations with the direct responsibility of supervising and coordinating all field assignments. Earl’s interaction with our project superintendents and field staff has resulted in precise and consistent high quality work and on-schedule projects.

Senior Vice President Pre-Construction & Estimating

Scott joined Shelco in 1993 as an Estimator and in 1996 was promoted to Senior Vice President of Pre-Construction & Estimating. In this role, Scott oversees pre-construction services incorporating conceptual estimates, initial project budgets, pricing updates throughout the design process, value engineering and final cost estimates. Scott has over thirty (30) years’ experience in hard bid and conceptual estimating and project negotiations along with scheduling and supervision. He also has extensive knowledge in Sage estimating, MS Project, OnScreen, and Excel software. Scott earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a Construction Option from North Carolina State University.

Brendan began his career with Shelco in 1999 as a Project Manager and in 2001 he was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Bluffton, South Carolina office. In 2009 he was promoted to Senior Vice President and relocated to the Charlotte office. His experience encompasses a wide range of projects including retail, hospitality, office, warehouses, and governmental facilities. Brendan earned his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Construction Management from Virginia Tech University.

Senior Vice President

Justin joined Shelco in 2005 as a Project Manager and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2010. With over twenty (20) years of construction experience, his project background includes; institutional, healthcare, assisted living, office building, parking decks, interior upfits, and grocery retail. Justin’s main role is Project Executive; leading the project team from conception with our Pre-Construction department through final turnover to the owner. His responsibilities include; team leader, owner liaison, overseeing the schedule, budget handling, managing subcontractors, and communicating project issues. Justin earned his AAS in Civil Engineering Technology & Construction Management degree from Monroe Community College.

Matt joined Shelco as Project Manager in 2005 and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2014. Matt has over seventeen (17) years of construction experience including corporate offices, retail, institutional, data centers, research and development facilities, and renovations. Matt’s current role as a Project Executive involves leading the project team, managing the project budget, overseeing the schedule, and directing the project from pre-construction through post-construction. He earned his B.S. degree in construction engineering from Iowa State University.

Senior Vice President, Vice President of Business Development

Hunter joined Shelco in 2008 as a Project Manager and was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2012. Hunter has approximately thirty (30) years’ experience in commercial construction as a project manager, engineer, and field superintendent. He has successfully completed countless healthcare renovation/addition projects as well as offices, upfits, and renovation assignments. Hunter takes a proactive leadership role in the daily coordination and guidance of the team building required for the successful completion of our projects. He earned his B.S. degree in Construction Management from East Carolina University.

Leo joined Shelco in 1994 as a Project Manager, bringing extensive experience in the construction industry throughout the United States. Leo was promoted to Senior Vice President/General Manager of the Winston-Salem office, Triad Division in 2001. His responsibilities have ranged from on-site planning Engineer to Senior Vice President and General Manager of Shelco’s Triad operations. Leo is currently among the ownership group of Shelco, LLC. As General Manager, Leo shares the overall responsibility for the success of the Triad Division. Leo has extensive experience in major hospital projects as well as, commercial, industrial and higher education projects. Leo is an accredited LEED Professional (LEED, AP) as well as a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC). Leo earned is his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University.

Rick joined Shelco in 1986 as a Project Manager, was promoted to Sr. PM in 1993, Vice President in 1995, and Senior Vice President and Co-General Manager of the Triad Office in 2004 where he currently shares responsibility for the overall success of the Triad Division. Rick is currently among the ownership group of Shelco, LLC. He has served as Project Executive on a wide variety of projects supporting teams from Pre-Construction thru successful project completion. Rick has a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Option from NC State University and a M.S. degree in Civil and Urban Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania where he was a Henry M. Chance fellow. He is an Eagle Scout and holds licenses as a Professional Engineer and a Real Estate Broker.
